Not too long ago, it used to be that when a woman brought home her facial scrub, cleanser and toner, she could be sure that the closest her man got to them was reaching over those fancy jars for his can of shaving cream. Not any more. In recent years, men have been secretly dipping into their wives and girlfriends skin care products and liking the results that they see. So much so that many companies are developing skincare lines just for men.

Male skin is different from that of women. The skin care regimen, however, is the same. It starts with cleansing to remove the dirt, grease, and pollutants from the skin. Cleansing also prevents pores from getting clogged. Do not use soap. Water soluble cleansers are preferred. Cleansing should be done at least once every day, twice a day if you can manage it.

Skin care for men revolves around shaving. This requires you to select the appropriate products for shaving. Skin type is a main consideration when selecting products. You should avoid alcohol based aftershave lotions. A good quality razor should be used. In this case, one with a swivel head is better to avoid cuts. Products and tools should be used properly.

Male skin is generally thicker and oilier because they have larger pores and more active sebaceous glands. Their skin can become dehydrated due to regular shaving. Moisturizers are very important in skin care for men. A moisturizing gel or cream should be applied after shaving. Most shaving foams and gels have a built-in moisturizer. When using a moisturizer, pat it gently over the face and massage gently using upward strokes.

Men’s skin care products also include special formulas for men to get rid of dark circles under their eyes. Most of these products for men contain either caffeine or Vitamin K to help minimize the appearance of circles. Using these kinds of anti aging skin care products can help the guys appear more professional and handsome than ever before.

These products certainly don’t have to cost too much. Many brand name products can be purchased in drugstores and they do as good a job as the higher priced men skin care lines do. The key is to experiment with products until you find the ones that work best for you.
